MUSINGS AND THE LIKE

LA BURRITO

You know you’re 33 weeks pregnant when while performing a truly awesome (if I do say so myself) car concert to “Always Be My Baby,” you start to tear up because “baby” has a whole new meaning… well that and the insane hormones.

Confession – sometimes when I get caught up in the middle of said car concerts to “Always Be My Baby,” I feel like it’s the best song that has ever been written. No, you say? Just have a listen and learn my friend.

WELCOME

We just added a new member to the Carn extended family, welcome to the world Logan! This was an especially exciting addition because we have big plans for Logan and La Burrito to be best friends since they will be the closest cousins in age. Now we just need to figure out a way to live a little closer to family.

BASEBALL

Words can not describe how sick I am of baseball season. What has it been, like a week? More like FOR-EV-ER. My hatred is three-fold. Firstly, St. Louis is a baseball town and they love their Cardinals and have this weird obsession with hating the Cubs. True story. For every Cardinals related shirt/hat/bumper sticker I see, 75% of them have to do with how much the Cubs “suck.” It’s funny how I’ve never seen any Cubs gear that hates on the Cardinals. I think they have some sort of complex. Secondly, beyond their Cubs fascination you can not go 5 minutes without being bombarded with references to the Cardinals. Granted the Rams won maybe 1 game last season but I’m pretty sure they didn’t get 1% of the coverage the Cardinals have. And my third and final point is that their day games end right before rush hour (which genius decided that?) so it makes my downtown commute 20 minutes longer. See? Everything about them is annoying!

SOME RECIPES TO SHARE

I’ve been trying new recipes the last few months in an attempt to expand my cooking horizons and I came across this Asian Spinach Salad recipe a while back. Since then we’ve probably eaten it near weekly. (I substitute cucumbers for the water chestnuts).

And since it’s asparagus season (and my pregnancy palette can finally enjoy vegetables again) we’ve made this delicious Asparagus Frittata recipe a lot lately as well.

Both easy, both delightful, ENJOY.

GENTLEMAN

Last Saturday I was walking out of the grocery store and a man tipped his hat to me. It wasn’t even an 80 year-old grandpa with a fedora; it was a 30-something with a baseball cap. I had to look around and make sure he wasn’t referring to someone else but there wasn’t anyone else near me. I know he wasn’t hitting on me… HELLO largely protruding baby bump… so it had to have been a genuine act of gentlemen-ness. It made me smile the whole way home thinking how proud his mom would be. I know it’s not customary to tip your hat to someone you don’t know, but in a small town I think everyone feels like they should know you. Either way, I think this is a practice that needs to come back in to fashion. It kind of made me feel like the world isn't all bad after all.

BRAD

Some may have noticed the horrendous lack of attention to Brad on this blog. My apologies. I promise I do let him do other things besides study. Although from these pictures you wouldn't be able to tell...

Poor boy. And for some reason he doesn't find my reminder "only two more years of dental school" comforting. Now just add a baby to the mix and we've got ourselves a party! Woo!

Love the song, love the bump, :) love the pictures of Brad. I feel it. Sometimes David doesn't even get in bed, he crashes on the couch with his alarm set for 2 hours later. throwing a baby in won't change his schedule, though he'll hurry home faster, but you'll become a new being. I love it and am so excited for you! About the Cards. I have no love for them either. I think its lack of attachment to this area. I just let it go and be happy for the people who love them. The stuff is everywhere! And I don't have to live with it forever. :)Sorry about your commute though.
